Meet the Maker: Simone from MIster and Muse

How long has your business been operating?
I purchased the business a few months ago, bringing the business to Ballarat from Adelaide, where it had been operating for 3 years.

What do you make and create? Is your product ethical, vegan, unique/different in any way?

I design easy to wear, comfy, wardrobe staples children's clothing from size 000 to size 4. The focus being unisex hi lo hemline t-shirts, unisex Hooded t-shirts and girls asymmetrical dresses. All these designs feature cuffed sleeves, come in Black, charcoal and white with black stripes.

I also stock a range from Coloured Organics Clothing, which are made from 100% organic cotton. A percentage of profits are given back to the workers who make these pieces.

How "hands on" to the creation of your products are you?

I am the designer and liase with those involved in production.

Tell me about the person you are in everyday life? (where you live, kids, family, activities?)

I live in Ballarat and enjoy frequenting the many cafes Ballarat has for coffee with friends, before working in the afternoons at my “day” job.

Tell me about why you love to create your products or brand?

I love designing. It gives me a creative outlet. I find any type of creativity relaxing. And it helps me express myself. I love sketching, colouring and trying to put what is in my head on paper.

Tell me about the space you work in to create your products?

The kitchen table with uncomfortable chairs! Sometimes I  mix it up and I sit in a cafe and sketch.

Does your family or friends help or have any input into what you do?

I have been extremely blessed to have family and friends help me at markets, give opinions on designs, more importantly offer words of encouragement and spreading the word.

What are your short term goals?

To get my name and product out into the world by having market stalls.

What are your long term goals?

I hope to one day have a shop front.

Why are your looking forward to being a part of the Mermaid Sorority Markets?

Because I have heard how great the markets have been, and when the opportunity came along to be involved in the first Ballarat Market, I was taking the opportunity to be a part of it, to meet other local makers and potential local customers.

THANK YOU So much Simone for your wonderful insight into your brand.

You will find Mister and Muse at tomorrow Ballarat Mermaid Makers Market.
